With the holiday season here, you are going to have to start thinking of ways to make your company standout from the crowd and make it more memorable. Some businesses send out calendars or desk toys, but they are just as quickly taken and forgotten. How many mouse pads do you really need and good luck getting those to work with iPads? You are going to want to come up with something unique and useful that is going to make your client remember you throughout the upcoming year. One of the more overlooked ideas is an embroidered hat or custom logo shirt for your client to have and wear.

First off, it isn’t a unique idea, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a good one. Custom apparel is going to remind your client of you every time that they put it on, but also advertise you. The potential of your customer’s own business connections or friends seeing them wearing your brand might trigger something in them. They might ask about you and your product, or assume that since they are wearing it, you must be good. After all, why would someone wear a hat from a company that they dislike?

As a gift for every customer out there, an embroidered hat might start to get a bit more expensive, but there are tons of apparel products that you can put your logo on. Even just a simple t-shirt or baseball tee can go a long way in thanking the people that have your supported your business in the last year. These are the folks that inevitably pay your own paycheck, so spending just a touch extra on them might be a great idea to continue your rapport. Set it at levels where low return clients are given one item, where your top five major clients get the other.

Next time you are out, check out how many people are wearing company shirts or embroidered hats from companies similar to yours? The chances are that you won’t find many. This means that these shirts will fill a niche and both help your business, and make your clients feel like they are special to you. Making your clients want to keep coming back for more is what is at the heart of business, so treating them to something a little special this holiday season is in your best interests. Whether you go for a hat, a shirt, or some other interesting apparel idea, your clients are going to love it.

If you are an entrepreneur, you know that you need to get your message out to the public as often as possible. For some companies, logo merchandise is a good way to do this. Should you choose an item of clothing for this purpose? Read on.

Why not just place your logo on the usual merchandise that most small businesses do, like t-shirts or water bottles? A unique item, such as a hoodie will reinforce a message that’s appropriate to students who want to follow trends and stand out as well.

You can serve this audience by delivering their favorite garment with a little edge—your logo! You want their peers to stop them and ask how they can get one just like it.

Be sure that your brand is compatible with the hoodie’s style. Is it edgy, a little over the top or rebellious? Is your image related to music or exercise? If the answer to even one of these questions is yes, then you know that you have a match of medium to message.

Here are just a few ways that you can reach the student and youth demographic:

  • Support local sports by adopting a team and gifting them with your branded items.
  • Offer branded hoodies to your employees, and soon their kids and their kids’ friends will want them (just don’t tell them that’s your plan).
  • If you sell a youth-appropriate product, set up a booth at a well-attended event, and offer hoodies as a premium with purchase.

When you approach companies that create branded hoodies, be sure to ask the following:

  • Can you print any combination of design and message?
  • Do you print your hoodies by hand?
  • Do you produce screen-printed clothing?
  • Do you print in full color?
  • Do you have lighter weight material (if you live in a tropical climate)?
  • If so, will I have a wide choice of colors and types of hoodie?
  • Do you embroider hoodies (if applicable)?
  • Do you use ink that does not run and high quality fabric?

Are you a tad concerned about the potentially unlawful implications of hoodies? Don’t be. The Sydney Morning Herald claims that emos and kids who participate in the X Games have adopted hoodies, and their images are far from gangsterish. Just use common sense, and don’t put your brand on a hoodie if you are an attorney or banker.
